Playing Their Hearts (Out).

The video above depicts the Heartbeat Chamber Orchestra, in which 12 musicians are connected by ECG heart sensors to create music based on their heartbeats. An elegant combination of qualitative and quantitative elements, methinks…

Also, I wonder how dynamics are created here? When the french horns, for example, dominate a passage does it mean that their hearts are beating the hardest? The fastest? I can remember the way my heart would pound at high school band concerts as I approached a solo or the like. There must be some A.I. at work here to keep the excited hearts of performing musicians from out-beating each other.
